How to use the vial opener

Set the vial on a stable surface. Hook the opener under the edge of the flip-off cap and lift with steady pressure until it pops. Don’t twist it.

Once the cap is off, wipe the rubber stopper with an alcohol swab before you puncture it for the first time. The cap keeps the stopper clean in transit, but it isn’t sterile underneath.

Why use a vial opener?

Prying caps off with fingernails or a knife is how people cut themselves or drop vials. The opener puts the force where it should be, on the edge of the cap, so the vial stays still on the bench.

It’s also handy if you open a lot of vials in one session, such as when you’re mixing a 5 pack or 10 pack, because it saves your thumbs.

Looking after the vial opener

Wipe the vial opener with an alcohol wipe now and then and let it air-dry. Keep it out of hot cars and direct sun, since printed and molded plastics can warp in heat. Store it with your vials so it’s always where you need it.

How flip-off caps work

A flip-off cap is a plastic disc sitting on top of an aluminum crimp seal. The crimp holds the rubber stopper onto the vial, and the plastic disc keeps the stopper covered until first use. Popping the disc off exposes the stopper but leaves the aluminum ring in place, so the vial stays sealed.

The disc is meant to come off once and stay off. If it’s already loose or missing when a vial arrives, don’t use that vial and contact us.
