AOD-9604 is a modified fragment of human growth hormone (residues 177-191 with an added tyrosine). It was developed at Monash University to study fat metabolism without GH’s effects on growth or IGF-1.

How AOD-9604 acts in the lab

Growth hormone has a region near its C-terminal end, residues 177 to 191, that seems to account for its effect on fat breakdown. AOD-9604 is that fragment with a tyrosine added at the front.

In animal studies it increased lipolysis and reduced lipogenesis in fat cells. It doesn’t bind the growth hormone receptor the way full GH does, and it didn’t raise IGF-1 in trials, which is what made it interesting as a tool for separating GH’s fat effects from its growth effects.
